Generating Termination Reports and Understanding ATO Compliance Reasons

Summary: This article provides guidance on generating termination reports and understanding termination reasons for compliance with ATO requirements.

Generating Termination Reports

To produce a report that shows all terminated members and their termination dates, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Reports → Member Reports → Members Detail Report.
  2. Select your Office and any other required details.
  3. Click Export Members Report to Excel to download the report.
  4. In the Excel report, you will find a Terminated Date field that lists the termination date for all terminated members.

Understanding Termination Reasons

For compliance with ATO requirements under STP Phase 2, it is essential to include the termination reason in your reporting. The termination reason, also known as the Cessation Type Code, is mapped in the Reasons (Personnel) Master of the Staff portal.

Cessation Type Codes

  • R: Redundancy
  • I: Ill Health

To locate or verify the termination reason for each member:

  1. Access the Reasons (Personnel) Master in your Staff portal.
  2. Look for the Reason Category linked to each terminated member under the “MBR TERMINATED” subgroup.
  3. The Reason Category will indicate whether the termination was due to Ill Health (I) or Redundancy (R).

Limitations on Reporting

Currently, there is no specific report available that directly lists all termination reasons for all members in a single export. The Member Detail Report includes the Terminated Date for each terminated member but does not include the termination reason (Cessation Type Code) in the exported report. Therefore, it may be necessary to check the termination reasons for each member individually in the Reasons (Personnel) Master.

Conclusion

Generating termination reports and understanding the associated reasons is crucial for compliance with ATO requirements. While the Member Detail Report provides termination dates, users must refer to the Reasons (Personnel) Master for specific termination reasons.
