What is New in the Add/ Edit Fatigue Rule?
When creating or editing a fatigue rule based on 'Shift Type', the Member Fatigue Management system will not compare the 'Old Shift Booking to check' field for uniqueness. You can create a new fatigue rule based on shift type without any restrictions, even if the same shift type is used in the 'Old Shift Booking to check'. Now, the system verifies the uniqueness of the new/existing rule based on the fields listed below:
-
Control Measure (Fatigue Management based on)
-
Restriction Type (as Shift Type)
-
New Shift Booking to Restrict
-
Apply Start Date
-
Apply End Date
Let us understand this with the help of an example:
Consider Fatigue Rule 1, where the 'Old Shift Booking to check' is set to PM and the 'New Shift Booking to restrict' is set to NS. Contrary to this fatigue rule, you can create Fatigue Rule 2 with 'Old Shift Booking to check' configured as AM, while still restricting the 'New Shift Booking to restrict' to NS.
In the Staff Portal, the figure below shows the Fatigue Rule as a warning for the member where the 'Old Shift Booking to check' is set to PM and the 'New Shift Booking to restrict' is set to NS.
Contrary to this fatigue rule 1, the figure below shows another Fatigue Rule as a warning for the member where the 'Old Shift Booking to check' is set to AM while still restricting the 'New Shift Booking to restrict' to NS.
In the New Client Portal, a similar warning is shown where the 'Old Shift Booking to check' is set to PM and the 'New Shift Booking to restrict' is set to NS.
Contrary to this fatigue rule 1, the figure below shows a warning for the member where the 'Old Shift Booking to check' is set to AM while still restricting the 'New Shift Booking to restrict' to NS.
Similar rule changes will apply to the Old Client Portal and Member App.
The duplicate rules with all the matching field details are not allowed, and the validation message will appear, 'This rule is already defined in the system'.
How do Fatigue Rules Apply to Broadcast Shifts?
In the Staff Portal, the fatigue rules will apply to the broadcast shift under the following conditions:
- When a member remains assigned to a broadcast shift through the Appoint option in the Staff Portal
3. When only one member remains assigned while:
- Others DECLINE or
- Marked for removal (REMOVE).
What is the Impact of the Broadcast Shift on Member App?
The Member App will verify the fatigue rules for broadcast shifts.
When the member taps to Accept the Broadcast Shift, the App will check the fatigue rules and display the applicable rule for the member. The Member App checks the fatigue rule before evaluating compliance, visa status, etc.
For the Broadcast Shift, when the member taps on the Accept button:
- The applicable Member Fatigue Alert will be displayed and click tap to see the details to view the alert.
- The Member Fatigue Alert will display the details that require your attention.

What is the 'Exclude Same Day Shift Check' Feature?
In the Member Fatigue Management master, a new field Exclude same day shift check is introduced. In the Add New Rule/Edit Rule screen, this new field is added when you set the Rules based on 'Shift Type' and allows you to include/ exclude the same shift day.
In the Add New Rule/Edit Rule screen:
- If the 'Exclude same day shift check' is set to YES, the fatigue rule will not be applied to the same shift day. For example: If the Shift Date is 20/10/2024 and the 'Exclude same day shift check' setting is set to YES, the system will check and apply the fatigue rule for the shift date on 19/10/2024 and 21/10/2024 and exclude 20/10/2024, if the -/+ values are set to 1/1 respectively
- If the 'Exclude same day shift check' is set to NO, the rule will apply to the same shift day
In case the 'Exclude same day shift check' setting is set to YES and both the negative (-) and positive (+) values are set to '0', a validation message will appear stating 'To apply this fatigue rule, the number of days (-/+) must be selected when excluding same day shift check'. In this case, it is necessary to select one day before (-) or after (+) to apply the fatigue rule.
Let us understand this with the help of an example:
- If the Shift Date is 20/10/2024, the 'Exclude same day shift check' is set to YES and the Day(s) Before and Day(s) After values are set to 1/1 respectively, the system will check and apply the fatigue rule for the shift date on 19/10/2024 and 21/10/2024 and exclude 20/10/2024. As the 'Exclude same day shift check' is set to YES, the fatigue rule will not be applied to the same shift day as shown in the figure below.
- If the 'Exclude same day shift check' is set to NO, the rule will apply to the same shift day, i.e. 19/10/2024, 20/10/2024, and 21/10/2024 as shown in the figure below.
Similar changes will apply to the New and Old Client Portal.
What is the Impact of the 'Exclude Same Day Shift Check' in the Member App?
According to the fatigue rules in the Member Fatigue Management master, the option to 'Exclude same day shift check' will be enforced in the Member App.
When the 'Exclude same day shift check' is set to YES. The same shift day is excluded when applying the fatigue rules, as shown in the Shift Details section below. |
When the ' Exclude same day shift check' is set to NO. The same shift day is included, and the fatigue rule is applied as displayed in the Shift Details below. |

What is the 'Hours Gap Between Contiguous Sleepover Shifts' Feature?
In the Member Fatigue Management master, a new field Hours gap between Contiguous Sleepover shifts is introduced. In the Add New Rule/Edit Rule screen, this new field is added when the Rule is based on 'Hours Type' and is added to comply with the requirements of the SCHADS Award.
According to the SCHADS Award, you must have a minimum of 8 hours gap between shifts specifically for Sleepover (SL) shifts. Now, you can provide the minimum required hours gap in the active shifts and sleepover shifts in 'Hours gap between Contiguous Active shifts' and 'Hours gap between Contiguous Sleepover shifts' respectively.
When you create a fatigue rule by specifying the 'Hours gap between Contiguous Active shifts' and 'Hours gap between Contiguous Sleepover shifts', the Member Fatigue Checks are displayed based on the selected Week Work Start Day.
Let us understand this with the help of example:
If a fatigue rule is set with 'Hours gap between Contiguous Active shifts' set to 10 hrs and 'Hours gap between Contiguous Sleepover shifts' set to 5 hrs:
- Case 1 - While scheduling a new sleepover shift, in case the active shift already exists, the hours' gap between the sleepover shift and the existing active shift must align with the specified duration i.e. 5 hrs; otherwise, a Member Fatigue Check is displayed for the member as shown in the figure below.
- Case 2: While scheduling a new active shift, in case the sleepover shift already exists, the hours' gap between the new active shift and the sleepover shift must align with the specified duration i.e. 5 hrs; otherwise, a Member Fatigue Check is displayed for the member as shown in the figure below.
- Case 3: While scheduling a new sleepover shift, in case the sleepover shift already exists, the hours' gap between the new sleepover shift and the existing sleepover shift must align with the specified duration i.e. 5 hrs; otherwise, a Member Fatigue Check is displayed for the member as shown in the figure below.

- Case 5: While scheduling a new active shift, in case the active shift already exists, the hours' gap between the new active shift and the existing active shift must align with the specified duration i.e.10 hrs; otherwise, a Member Fatigue Check is displayed for the member as shown in the figure below.
Note that the maximum limit for 'Contiguous Hours gap between Sleepover shifts (hh:mm)' is 24 hours.
The functionality for the Hours gap between Contiguous Sleepover shifts (hh:mm) is applicable in both the Client Portal and Member App.
How are Sleepover Hours Excluded from the Worked Hours of the Shift in the Hour Type Rule?
The Sleepover Hours are excluded from the worked hours of the shift in the Hour Type Rule as explained below:
When the shift is finance confirmed:
- Finance Confirmed Shifts: If sleepover hours associated with the shift type or the split part of shifts are added for an Active Shift and are finance confirmed. The sleepover hours will excluded from the calculation of Worked Hours for the provided Hour Type fatigue rule.
- Similarly, if active hours associated with the shift type or the split part of shifts are added for a Sleepover Shift and are finance confirmed. The active hours will be included in the calculation of Worked Hours for the provided Hour Type fatigue rule.
When the shift is not finance confirmed:
- For the Booked Shifts: If sleepover hours are added in the additional shift details for an Active Shift, the sleepover hours will excluded from the calculation of Worked Hours for the provided Hour Type fatigue rule.
- Similarly, if the active hours (including Paid Meal Breaks, Unpaid Meal Breaks, Active Worked Hours, On-Call, and Others) are added in the additional shift details for a Sleepover Shift, the active hours will be included in the calculation of Worked Hours for the provided Hour Type fatigue rule.
How are Finance Confirmed Hours Considered Upon Shift Confirmation?
While applying the fatigue rule, if the shift is not confirmed in the Finance Portal, the allocated hours with allocated start and end times are considered; otherwise, confirmed modified hours with confirmed shift start and end times (excluding breaks) from finance are used.
The fatigue rule illustrated in the sample figure below shows that when the shift is not confirmed in the Finance Portal, the system will consider the allocated hours along with their respective start and end times. Here the Single day work hours limit is set to 8 hours and the member's work hours limit is exceeded by 7 hours.
For this similar shift, when the member's working hours are modified and confirmed in the Finance Portal, the confirmed hours with confirmed shift start and end times (excluding breaks) are used. Here the single day work hours limit is set to 8 hours and in finance the work hours are confirmed as 6 hours and 30 minutes.
Similar rule changes will apply to the Member App and Client Portal.
