FAQ: Award Shift Midnight Split Issues Post-Upgrade to Version X.1+
Q1. Why am I seeing award processing issues after upgrading to X.1 or higher?
In version X.1+, the mandated midnight split on all shifts was removed due to changes in the new SL process. Previously, that automatic midnight split often masked gaps or inconsistencies in award split configuration. Now that it has been removed, any awards that don’t explicitly define the correct splits (e.g. for Fri/Sat/Sun NS) may show issues in processing.
Q2. What exactly is affected by this change?
You may notice that:
- Shifts crossing midnight no longer auto-split at 00:00.
- Certain shifts are not splitting as expected (especially weekend and NS shifts).
- Some portions of a shift are not attracting the correct loading/penalty because the split is not explicitly configured in the award.
Q3. Do I have to manually update my awards?
Yes. After upgrading to X.1+, you must manually review and adjust award configurations so that all required splits (including those that previously relied on the midnight split) are explicitly defined.
Q4. How do I check if my awards need adjustment?
- Identify shifts where:
- The shift crosses midnight and no longer splits, or
- Weekend/NS portions don’t calculate as expected.
- Note the award, classification, day, and time (e.g. Fri NS, Sat NS, Sun NS).
- Open the award configuration and review:
- Split definitions around midnight and weekend periods.
- Weekend and night shift rules.
- Any custom conditions that interact with splits.
Q5. How do I fix the issue?
- Open the relevant award.
- For each affected period (especially shifts crossing midnight and Fri/Sat/Sun NS):
- Add or update explicit split rules (time bands) to replace the removed midnight split.
- Save and test by:
- Reprocessing a sample shift, or
- Running a test timesheet covering the affected days/times.

- Identify key awards with shifts that regularly cross midnight or include weekend NS.
- Document expected behaviour for some sample shifts.
