Common FAQ's for Stapled Fund Lookups

What is Super Stapling?

Super stapling means an employee’s existing super fund (“stapled fund”) follows them from job to job instead of a new account being created each time. This reduces duplicate accounts and excess fees, helping employees keep their retirement savings consolidated and easier to manage.

What’s changing from 1 July 2026?

During onboarding, you must attempt a stapled fund lookup and, where a stapled fund exists, show it alongside any other fund options. Flare is adding stapled fund lookups into onboarding, so these flows remain compliant with the new Payday Super legislation.

Who must complete Employer Authorisation?

Only the Principal Authority or an Authorised Administrator for the business can complete Employer Authorisation.

My ATO Access Manager login is not working. Who should I contact for assistance?

If you need further assistance with ATO Access Manager or authorising a Sending Service Provider, please contact the ATO directly. You can contact ATO via the Contact Us and Help links from the Access Manager page.

What happens if I don’t authorise Flare?

If Flare is not authorised, stapled fund lookups cannot be performed for that business and the onboarding experience will fall back to more manual, error-prone processes.

I am unable to access ATO Access Manager

If you receive an error when attempting to log in to ATO Access Manager, it is likely that you do not have the required authorisations. You can log in to the Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) to review your current permissions. You will need to hold the role of “Principal Authority” or “Authorisation Administrator”, and you must also have “Full” level access to the “Australian Taxation Office (ATO)”.

I do not have a myGovID. How can I obtain one?

If you do not have a myGovID, you will not be able to access ATO Access Manager (AM) or Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM). You should speak with the business owner, finance team, or payroll team to identify who currently has a myGovID and access to these portals. Once you have confirmed who has access, please provide them with these instructions so they can complete the required steps.

What permissions do I need to set up super stapling?

To authorise automated super stapling, you must be the “Principal Authority” or an “Authorised User” for the business entity within Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM).

What if I cannot find Flare by ABN or name?

This issue usually occurs when the search is performed in the incorrect section of the ATO Access Manager.

To locate Flare Pty Ltd, ensure you are using the correct search option:

  1. Log in to the ATO Access Manager
  2. On the homepage, click “Appoint new business” (located in the blue banner at the top of the screen)
  3. This will open the correct search interface
  4. Search using either:
    • Business name: Flare Pty Ltd
    • ABN: 466 071 208 92

If Flare still does not appear in the search results, confirm that:

  • You have the required permissions (Principal Authority or Authorised Administrator)
  • You are accessing the correct entity within Access Manager
